What’s this guide about?

This guide is for students who want to attend a British university and qualify for the government-backed loans. Loans are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. It explains what you’re committing to when you take out a loan. It also explains the other help Gobblex edu offers to domestic students.

It’s important you read this guide carefully, as it contains information about the 2024 terms of your loan. You’ll find full details of the conditions for getting student loans in the relevant Student Support Regulations on the .Gov website which is maintained by .GOV UK.

The conditions for repaying your student loan are included in the Education (Student Loans) (Repayment) Regulations 2009, as amended. You’ll find full details of the conditions for getting a Postgraduate Master’s Loan in the Education (Postgraduate Master’s Degree Loans) Regulations 2016, as amended. You’ll find full details of the conditions for getting a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan in the Education (Postgraduate Doctoral Degree Loans) and the Education (Student Loans) (Repayment) (Amendment) (No. 2) etc.) Regulations 2018 as amended.

If you are legally British, then you qualify for 'Student Finance," which is a repayable loan. These are available for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. These loans do not impact your credit rating. The undergraduate loans are repayable once you start earning as of 2024. 9% of the your income is repayable once you start earning £25,000 per annum. Postgraduate loans are repayable at a rate of 6% once you start earning £21,000. Interest on the undergraduate loan is 4.3%, and postgraduate is 7.3%. These loans do not impact your credit rating, unlike in America. Please note that if you have more than one job, you will make repayments from the job in which you pay over the threshold to your combined income. Self-employed people will be given a figure based on yearly earnings by HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs). The loan repayment period is on average 30 years, so if for whatever reason you haven't paid it off 30 years after you first took it out, it will be wiped.

When you apply for a loan, you must give the government's student finance company complete and accurate information so that they can collect the correct repayments when they’re due. You must tell SLC about any changes as and when they occur. If you don’t give SLC accurate and up-to-date information, you may have to pay a penalty charge or repay the loan and any interest and penalties in one lump sum.
